Good news for homebuyers! The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has been extended till December 2025, allowing more families across urban and rural India to benefit from affordable housing.
Since its launch in 2015, the scheme has helped build over 92.61 lakh homes for those from economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), and marginalised communities.
PMAY Structure
The scheme consists of two segments:
- PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) – for urban families
- PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) – for rural families
Who Can Apply?
For PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U):
Applicants must not own a pucca house in India and must fall under eligible income groups:
- EWS (up to ₹3 lakh)
- LIG (₹3–6 lakh)
- MIG-I (₹6–9 lakh)
Other eligible applicants include daily wage workers, rickshaw pullers, women (especially widows) from EWS/LIG backgrounds, and individuals from SC/ST/OBC or minority groups.
For PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G):
Rural families listed under the SECC are preferred—especially those living in kutcha homes with up to two rooms.
Not eligible if owning:
A pucca house, four-wheelers, farming machinery, taxable income, or luxury assets.
What’s New in PMAY-U 2.0?
